Summer comes around once a year, but it seems like we blink and those wonderful 2 months are over and it’s back to school the kids go! Since it goes so fast, we need to make the best of it and find all kinds of fun summer ideas to keep the kids busy.
Making sure to make summers something your children will never forget is a project in itself. I know I am constantly looking for fun and inexpensive ideas and I like to try things that we’ve never done before, especially as the kids grow up so fast. So here you’ll find some super fun ideas to make your kids summer unforgettable!
What’s Needed For The Fun Summer Ideas
You won’t need all that much to enjoy the fun summer ideas in this list. For a couple of the ideas, like the summer bingo and the neighbourhood scavenger hunt, you’ll need to print out the sheets. So make sure to have a printer on hand, if you don’t have one, you can find a great printer model on Amazon.
You’ll need some paint, for the Creative Rock Painting, the Tin Can Bowling and for the Weather Mobile. You can find all kinds of great paints and colours at Amazon.
For the Pool Noodle Play House and The World’s Best Slip and Slide, you’ll need pool noodles. These can be easily purchased at a Dollar Store. While you’re at the Dollar Store, you can also pick up the Dixie Cups required for the Easy Rainbow Popsicles.
For the movie nights, make sure to go to the store and stock up on tons of popcorn and snacks. For the outdoor movie, you’ll need a projector to view your movies. This projector from Amazon also comes with a 100” screen.
The last thing I would suggest to have on hand is a Tie Dye Kit for the Tie Dye Beach Towels. Amazon has a kit that includes 26 colours, fabric markers, stencils, as well as all the protective equipment needed.

1. Summer Bingo
Bingo is an awesome game and it’s even more fun when it’s summer related, rather than just calling out the regular numbers. On this Summer Bingo Game you’ll find some cute and fun colourful pictures as the items to call out and extra ways to make it even more fun to play! Visit Made By The Macs for the PDF versions of the Summer Bingo game.
2. Edible Finger Paint
Most kids love finger painting, unless you have children who don’t like getting their fingers dirty. And if that’s the case, well this finger paint is perfect for them, since they can lick their fingers once they’re done! This quick and simple edible finger paint is made with just whipped cream and food colouring and is so much fun to do. For more instructions on how to make the finger paint, visit The Savvy Sparrow.
3. Pool Noodle Playhouse
My kids love making playhouses and forts inside the house. It becomes their little hiding spot where they bring in their pillows and snacks, along with a tablet or phone to watch some movies. This fun playhouse is made up of pool noodles, which is something so fun! Once you’re done with the playhouse and want to take it down, you can recycle the pool noodles for either playing in the pool or trying to find other fun summer ideas your kids can use them in. Visit From ABC to Acts for this fun idea.
4. Indoor Beach Themed Movie Day For Kids
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea. Movie days are so fun and when you jazz it up by adding snacks it’s even more fun. But this idea is another level! Especially if you’re like my family who absolutely adores the beach! Visit Mom, Wife, Busy Life to see how they set up the indoor beach themed movie with beach lounge chairs inside and popcorn in sand pails.
5. Creative Rock Painting For Kids
This fun project is a great idea for relax time. Find some rocks that are relatively smooth and then the sky is the limit on what you decide to paint on them. The relaxing part about it, is that the kids have to sit calmly at the table and take their time in painting the rocks if they want to do so in a specific pattern. So maybe put on some music and then get your paint on! Check out Projects With Kids for rock painting patterns for these fun summer ideas!
6. Weather Mobile Craft
This weather mobile is so cute and incorporates branches from outside and the different weather patters. Fun summer ideas like this one will be fun to make with your kids, having them colour the different pictures of clouds, rainbows, sun, etc and then having them cut them out. They can easily be hung to the branch afterwards. And then every day have your little ones point out what the weather is like that day. For instructions, visit Buggy and Buddy.
7. Easy Rainbow Popsicles Using Dixie Cups
Ask any child if they want a popsicle and almost every one of them would say yes. These popsicles though, are not your standard popsicles. They are made with vanilla pudding and are in a rainbow colour. These popsicles definitely make for fun summer ideas! To get the instructions on how to make them, visit One Little Project.

And the best part is, when you get a YAHTZEE!!! You can jump up and down for joy with more space to do so! Visit The Pinning Mama for the steps on making this game.
2. How To Host A Backyard Movie Night
So we’ve found a great idea for an indoor movie night, using a beach themed movie night. Now we have a backyard movie night that can be watched under the moon. 3. World’s Best DIY Slip And Slide
This is a great project to put together, particularly for those who have no pool! It’s an easy way to cool down on those extra hot days. And the fact that you can make 2 lanes, means that more than one child can go down at the same time. Whether it be siblings racing down or friends, it will be an activity that can keep them busy for hours. And the fact that’s it’s a DIY project is also great, just get your kids involved in making fun summer ideas like this one. Check out The Relaxed Homeschool for the tutorial.

This is a baseball game that kids and adults can enjoy, especially on a hot summer day. Just grab some water balloons, fill them up and make sure you have a plastic wiffle bat and you’re ready to go. The water balloons act as the baseball, so when someone hits it, they will get nice and refreshed! Check out Overstuffed Life for instructions on how to play.

Bowling is so much fun, but can get expensive if you’re always heading to the bowling alley to play a few games. This fun bowling game can easily be made at home using some tin cans and some paint.
